Kalinga Architecture

Standing Tall in the
Rekha Deul Tradition

The temple is an architectural delight standing tall at about 47 feet and 6 inches, designed in the ‘Rekha’ pattern of temple making — the most sacred and ancient form of Kalinga architecture, the same tradition as the great Jagannath Temple at Puri.

The temple was carved by skillful artisans who brought centuries of Odishan temple-building tradition to life. The spectacular interior of the sanctum is separated by pillars and entrance gates, creating a journey from the outer world into the divine presence of the Lord.

As you enter through the gate, you experience a tranquil, peaceful, soothing atmosphere — a vibration of cosmic energy that stills the mind and opens the heart to the divine. The deities are adorned with beautiful coloured dresses, ornaments, flowers and sacred decorations.

“As we enter through the gate we experience a tranquil, peaceful, soothing atmosphere and vibration of cosmic energy — the threshold between the world and the divine.”

The Sacred Sub-Temples

Shree Banikshetra is not a single temple but a magnificent complex of multiple sacred shrines — each dedicated to a deity, each a destination of devotion.
